Similan & Surin live-aboard itinerary

Meet in our Dive Center in Phuket for briefing at approximately 7:30pm on the evening of the departure date, board Wanderlust and depart Patong Bay by 9:00pm. Travel overnight to Similan Islands.

Arriving in the early hours of the morning, breakfast and then an orientation dive for everyone to get comfortable with their new surroundings and dive equipment. Dives two and three will be in the area of islands four and five in the Similan chain.

Short sail north to the first dive site of the day – Elephant Rock, recognized as one of the best dives that the Similans has to offer; large granite boulders piled upon each other, creating large ‘swim-throughs’ and tunnels make this an exceptional dive site. Dives two and three will be in the northern part of the Similan chain. There will also be an option of an additional extra night dive.

Early morning departure from the Similans - sailing for two hours to Koh Bon island. First dive of the day on the ridge on the western end of the island. This dive site has great potential to see large pelagics. Manta-rays are normally here. Move north again and on to Koh Tachai island; here we dive on the submerged undersea mount off of south coast of the islands. Expect to see healthy coral formations, along with a variety of marine life, including Leopard sharks, Black-blotched stingrays. Again this is a good site to see Mantas and Whale sharks. Dive three of the day will also be on this reef.

Richelieu Rock – Considered to be the best dive site in Thailand, this undersea mount is covered in a profusion of multi-coloured soft and hard corals. Three dives will be offered here, exploring the dive site and it’s many interesting inhabitants. Richelieu is infamous for Whale-shark sightings. At the end of the afternoon, sail to the Surin Islands, ten miles to the west for the evening anchorage. An additional night dive at Turtle Ledge is available (weather permitting).

Early morning visit to the Surin Islands national park and a rare opportunity to see the shy and reclusive sea gypsies. The Surin Islands are one of the most beautiful islands in the Andaman Sea, with clear waters, healthy reefs and covered in thick rain forest; they are not to be missed on any itinerary. There will be three dives en route back south to the Similan Islands, where the night will be spent in a safe and scenic anchorage.

The last day in the itinerary - two dives are offered on probably the top dive sites that the Similans have to offer. Christmas Point, with it’s clear waters and abundance of pelagic fish is going to leave you with great memories of a truly world class dive destination, then on to the Boulders, the last dive of the trip - Resident Black tip and White tip reef sharks as well as schooling Tuna and Jacks. The underwater rock formations, massive granite boulders, covered in a spectrum of multi-coloured soft corals, give homes to Leopard sharks, Stingrays Lion fish, as well as the occasional lobster or two!
